CCT has developed the INSTRUCT therapy which combines its patented Cellular Regeneration Technology (CRT) with a Mechanically Functional Scaffold (MFS) to treat articular cartilage defects. The MFS is a degradable polymer (polyactive) implant with dynamic mechanical properties similar to healthy cartilage. The CRT cells are isolated intra-operatively from patient biopsies, using proprietary rapid isolation methods, combined with the MFS and then implanted back into the patient’s cartilage defect within a single surgical procedure. CCT has developed the INSTRUCT therapy, from the research bench, through pre-clinical testing and validation and into GMP manufacturing. CCT commenced a pilot 10 patient clinical trial in early 2010 and, based on safety data from these patients, extended this trail in 2011 to include an additional 30 patients. CCT is aiming to achieve a CE mark for its MFS in mid 2012. CCT is the technology leader in articular cartilage repair with the only single surgery cartilage repair therapy in the market that provides patients with autologous chondrocytes. CCT has the scientific, technical, quality control and regulatory experience of bringing this technology to market and offer a unique proposition to the consortium and the potential exploitation of the projects results.
