WP08 – Training, dissemination and exploitation


Objective of this WP is to provide HydroZONES with a framework for interdisciplinary training especially of young scientists. Moreover, it will ensure that project results will be identified, assessed and, if appropriate, protected. To achieve this, we will develop a dissemination strategy that will enable widespread publication of the project results after all protection activities have been concluded. Finally, an exploitation strategy, including routes to market for all appropriate project results, will be developed.

Workpackage Description


During the course of the project 2 types of training tools will be implemented:

1. Short stage training on novel strategies: 1-2 week hands-on courses will be offered to PhD students and Postdocs from members of the consortium throughout the project duration focusing on core technologies of HydroZONES. Topics foreseen include:

  • Quality management in medical product development and accredited testing
  • Hydrogels: From polymer synthesis to biofunctional constructs
  • Automated assembly and bioprinter technology
  • Chondrocyte and MSC isolation and culture
  • Automatised in vitro assays: GMP-conform advanced bioreactor techniques
  • In vivo models for cartilage regeneration

2. Exchange program for PhD and postdoctoral students: This program will cover typically 2-6 months research internships in laboratories within the consortium but outside the host institution. Students may apply for a HydroZONES exchange fellowship to the management team that will evaluate all applications and decide. Applications will have to be focused on tasks involving the project. Fellowships will be granted directly to the student, including a certificate, and will cover travel and subsistence.

Exploitation and dissemination

For exploitation of project results, the exploitation manager will be responsible for identifying and assessing the project results and reporting this to all project members throughout the project duration. An appropriate protection- and exploitation strategy will be developed together with the management team. After protection and exploitation of the results have been assessed and performed, results of the project will be disseminated to the scientific community as well as the broad public.
